Amir’s Hidden life becomes a source for blackmail, afraid of the consequences, his Iranian family’s views he makes a one way trip to the airport. Following a delicious gelato, Amir decides to flee to Rome, escape the blackmail, escape the consequences. He finds all of himself whilst he’s away and decides to hide who he truly is no longer, he begins to make a new life for himself. When reality comes crashing in he spends time being interviewed by a customs officer.

I loved the way this book was written, mainly from Amir’s point of view with relevant snippets from his family. You realise how young Amir really is and why these situations seem so out of control, he’s struggling with his sexual and family identity, who he’s supposed to be in this world. We watch his journey to acceptance. Race and LGBTQ is a hard hitting issue of 2020, acceptance and humour really come through in this work of art.

The nipple story..... that was disgusting!
