I was very interested in reading this book after reading the first look but found the story rather disappointing. Amir is a Muslim teenager who is afraid to tell his parents that he is gay. When fellow students blackmail him and threaten to tell his parents at the graduation ceremony he runs away from home. He ends up in Italy where he quickly meets up with the gay community where he is easily accepted. His parents find him but on the flight home they argue and end up being interviewed as potential terrorists. The story is told largely through the interviews of himself, his parents and sister. The book is based to some extent on the author's own experiences. I found the beginning of the book interesting but the descriptions of his month in Italy became rather boring. I couldn't feel any interest in the people he met and what seemed to be quite a shallow lifestyle.
