This book follows Amir who is struggling with the reality of telling his Muslim parents that he is gay. It is made extensively harder when two boys from his high school start blackmailing him, threatening to tell his parents with a photograph of Amir kissing popular jock Jackson. Conflicted between giving them money and coming out to his parents himself, coupled with the college rejection letters Amir is struggling to cope and decides disappearing for a while is his best option.

This book is extremely easy to read, and you immediately feel bad for Amir, who desperately wants to be himself but is worried that he'll lose the love of his parents if he does so. It is evident that this book is extremely personal to the author and his voice is clearly present throughout, highlighting Amir's feelings even more. Overall, this is a book that I will definitely continue to read as I'm very much interested to follow the rest of Amir's Journey.
