It took me a while to get round to picking up How It All Blew Up which, having now read it, is a real shame considering just how GOOD this book is. It felt so warm to read and the narrative voice was just so real, honest and authentic. Just the feeling of this book was so truthful.

I loved the split-narrative in the sense that we had the main bulk of the book dedicated to Amir's POV whilst also have those interdispersed, short chapters of dialogue from his family at the airport. In particular, I particularly grew to love the character of his sister, Soroya, in those segments.

As I've said, the narrative voice of this book felt very real and so did all of the other characters. Regardless of how much oage time they had, every single character in this book seemed so well-crafted and utterly real. They could easily leap from the page to the real world and you wouldn't notice.

Finally, I also thought the setting of Rome was beautiful. I've never visited the city myself but reading this book felt like travelling there, the imagery and description was exquisite.
