The blurb and first few chapters of this really drew me in however I must admit I floundered with it until about half way through then seemed to read the rest really quickly. The subject is undoubtedly frank and refreshing but is more the story of Amir panicking about being outed to his family when he was not ready to be and finding acceptance within Italy than the actual details of him coming out, in fact his families reaction was barely represented. The interrogation room detail broke things up well especially his sister Soraya’s parts as they added detail to the story from someone other than Amir’s perspective which the story is primarily based on. I did enjoy reading about Amir’s exploits in Rome and the colourful characters but would have preferred more focus on the family as a whole. 7/10
