How it all blew up is a story about a Muslim boy - a gay Muslim boy, This makes the book quite relatable to real life experiences with the lgbt community struggling to come out to their family and especially the ones with a religious family. The book is a mirror of the authors story which means it comes from a personal perspective and resonates with the readers.

The book is quite fast paced the author got to the point quickly, introduces the family and their views quickly, introduces antagonists, and also creates a look into the future in the first part of the book so readers understand where the book is headed to. The first look into how it all blew up creates a feeling in anticipation into the main characters coming out, it creates suspense for the main characters love life and experiences in Rome. It also makes readers anticipate the family’s reaction to his coming out.
