I was immediately drawn to this book from the description because it promised to tell the story of a gay Muslim teen. I think Amir's struggle with coming out to his parents was portrayed accurately.

However, I don't think Islam was present in this book. Amir and his family are only culturally Muslim from what I gathered. I might have enjoyed the story more if there was more mention of being a queer Muslim. I didn't really enjoy reading the povs of Amir's family they didn't seem like they added much to the story. The constant switching timelines between Italy and the Interrogation room were a little jarring. Another thing I didn't like was Amir's infatuation even after he found out that he was already in a committed relationship. Amir is very naive and easily manipulated which led to him coming in-between a toxic couple. The dynamics between the friend group were especially strained after that but, it's good that the characters were flawed.
