What a book! This story loosely follows the true story of a young gay man discovering himself when trying to escape himself. Oh, and he is Muslim, just to make his life even more complicated.
The story starts in Interrogation room 37, where protagonist Amir and his family are being detained due to in incident on a plane. We learn the story from the perspective of Amir during the interrogation and on the days leading up to him being detained. We also learn of different perspective of the story and scenario of his family members, as they tell of their discovery of Amir's sexuality from their perspectives.
This is an incredibly important book to read. If 'coming out' as gay was hard enough, imagine being Muslim too. I know I could never imagine this scenario for myself, but I am glad I have read this book to be better educated upon the subject. A must read, and educational, for all.
