With Reyna visiting Boyd regularly while he is in custody on Rikers island this proves that she has deep feelings for him, these feelings are embedded as the visits move on over his time there.
Reyna's aunt Kiki is well travelled and has a wealth of worldly knowledge even though she has now settled in New York. She is looking out for her niece, anticipating that there is more to the Boyd relationship than meets the eye, but she cannot put her finger on it, yet . Reyna is devoted to her daughter and for the sake of the 4 year old child, chooses not to take up the offer to help Boyd even if this is for a better life for them all. Reyna is sure that Boyd's schemes and business across states will not end well and further his sentence if he breaks the bounds of his probation. The love for her daughter forces her to pull away from Boyd, but the full consequences are yet to know.
I really enjoyed the first few pages of this book I cannot wait to read more and more like it. Totally pulled into the story, well done to Joan Silber.
