I loved Aunt Kiki from the start, her lust for travel, her interest in classics, her straight talking and her mysterious past. Her support and advice for her niece is touching.

I wish her niece had taken her advice and left Boyd to make an adventure of her own.

Silber weaves the lives of her characters together, like the weave of Kiki’s Turkish rugs.

Reyna the main character is not necessarily the most liekable of people, at times I wanted to shake her and make her choose a different path. On reflection, perhaps that’s the point, the author wants us to realize that none of us are perfect we all have our flaws, but we can only take each day as it comes.

The chapters are quite long, but separated with long line breaks which serve to give the impression of passing days and decisions and events.

Overall an enjoyable read, well written and researched.
