I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but the title “Improvement” jumped out at me, no-one is perfect!
Kiki has lived a very basic life in Turkey but when your time is up you move on. She returned to New York and back into the lives of her family including Reyna her niece and it is clear their lives are lived very differently. Kiki is more pure and simple enjoying the goods nature provides us all with holding her carpets from Turkey with high regard, whereas Reyna enjoys modern luxuries and body art.
Reyna lives with her son and has a boyfriend serving a short stint in jail. When he comes out - he drags Reyna into his tainted world risking her freedom.
Reyna wants to protect her son and makes a very tough decision for their futures.
This book reminds us of the power of the butterfly effect, how one small seemingly insignificant choice can ripple out affecting everyone and everything around us!
Very cleverly written and a poingient message sent to the reader.
