This book revolves around Reyna and her aunt Kiki. Reyna and her ex-con boyfriend Boyd get involved in a cigarette smuggling scheme but when she makes a particular decision a series of events are set in motion.
Although I did enjoy this book, I felt that some of it was disjointed and the stories didn't necessarily connect with each other. I thought that Kiki would feature more heavily in the book and was a little surprised at the tangents the stories went off in (I found the Bruno, Steffi and Dieter section rather random). I found the chapters describing Darisse's life the most poignant and would have liked to have stayed with her a little longer.
The writing was interesting and colourful and described the different cities and settings well. The characters were all well-drawn but for me it just didn't hold together as one coherent novel.
