A story set in a rural English village in 1940 about women belonging to the local WI. It sounds like a nostalgic and comfortable setting but far from it, every character seems to have an interesting and demanding story to tell and I want to learn more about their lives.
I am intrigued that this book is written by a male author as previous books of this type have always been written by women - perhaps that is part of its attraction and why it feels grittier somehow.
