I loved the Home Fires TV series so was very excited to read Keep the Home Fires Burning by S Block. And I was not disappointed! What a joy! The characters in the village just come to life and it is as if you have stepped back in time to the 1940s and experiencing the lives of the women left behind whilst World War II raged in Europe. With the men away the women are left to run the village as best the can, many under the flag of the Women's Insitute.
The lives and loves of the women come to life as you are shown the different stories behind each door and live the highs and lows of each woman. This is how you imagine life to be like in a wartime rural village, and the daily struggles of such incredible women. Beautifully written. Perfect.
