Anyone who, like me, enjoyed the TV series of Home Fires, will really enjoy this book. It continues where the TV series finished, featuring the same characters and chronicling their lives, as they continue to face the struggle to survive and stay safe, whilst maintaining some semblance of a normal life, in their quiet village location during the dark days of World War II.

We meet people from very different walks of life, all pulling together, principally through the good offices of the local Women’s Institute, to support their neighbors and the war effort, whilst experiencing their own personal struggles and emotional problems.

It’s a story of love, and challenges faced and met and also some tragedy, set against a background of the tensions which war inevitably brings. This is the first of a series of three Keep The Home Fires burning novels, and I eagerly look forward to the next two.
