Incredible read. I loved how the author switched between the different characters and their perspectives. It really shows us how war might have been in the countryside, in a small village. The characters are very well written and each chapter has you wanting to know more about them. It focuses in detail the issues that many people may have been facing at the time, including love, abuse, missing family and friends and generally learning how to get by in terms of hardship. There is a specific woman that is going through an abusive relationship and it really shines light on the fact that abuse can come in many shapes and forms and I long to know what happens to the abuser. Does he get found out!? Will definitely be ordering the next one as cannot wait to find out what happens with all the Great Paxfordians. Follows on very well from the television series which left me with so many unanswered questions. BrillIiantly written and a definite page turner
