At first, Zoe's life seems lovely. With doting husband and a rich lifestyle, what could be better? But as you read further you realise that is not the case. The author has written it so beautifully and you feel so much sympathy for the main character, and as a reader, you wish that you could just reach out and help her escape this prison of a life.
What I particularly like was the subtle references between Zoe's old life and her current one. She says when she first met him, he "owned the room" and in the present he seems to own her.
