The start of the book tackles the difficult subject of abuse within marriage quite well. The scene is set with believable descriptions of control and manipulation showing the power one person can have over another when they are isolated from everyone else.

Unfortunately the authors plot lines to extricate the heroine from her powerless situation become very far fetched and unbelievable. Although the characters are quite well described, I found the sudden injection of additional major characters disconcerting and felt they should have been introduced earlier.

I kept hoping that the latter stages of the book replicated the writing excellence of the start. I would say that this is not the worst book I have ever read and would not discount reading future books by this author.
