Carol specialises in in making the reader uncomfortable, by taking them to unnerving situations and Kiss Me, Kill Me is no exception.

Zoe has ended up in a very bad place and how on earth can she escape? Not all prisons have a lock and key and is anyone really free?

As the story develops Carol jumps backwards and forwards with the time line and takes the narrative through the view point of different characters so you are never quite sure what is coming next. To say that there are twists and unseen turns would be an understatement. Carol cannot be accused of being overly formulaic with this effort.

Not everyone will enjoy the way the story develops but there is enough here to keep the reader interested, although this is not my favourite of Carol’s cannon of work.

James Carol is already well known to a number of readers for his enigmatic and intellectually brilliant private detective Jefferson Winter. There have been a number of stories featuring Winter and they are well worth a read.

The other standalone book by Carol (penned as J.S Carol) was the Killing Game featuring a contest with the highest of all possible stakes and is to be recommended.

I was a fan of James Carol before reading Kiss Me Kill Me and remain so after this story and hope that a new Jefferson Winter adventure arrives before too long.
