This book begins with a very graphic description of life in a domestic abuse situation and you want to find out how Zoe got into this relationship and how she is going to get out of it. The tension builds as she makes plans to leave her abusive husband in order to save her unborn child and up to this point the book is a taut psychological thriller.
Then for reasons best known to the author himself the story goes off on a tangent that in many ways negates the impact that the earlier chapters in the book had. These chapters and the ultimate conclusion of the story lack the tension inherent at the start of the book and I have to be honest and say that for me the book became a bit lacklustre and did not meet its earlier promise.
