Know Nothing

Well, initially we know nothing but this is shaping up to be a taut thriller. Nimue Acheson plunged to her death a few weeks ago and now another young local boy, Connor Baird seems to have emulated her. To the chagrin of the Police the new doctor, Grace, thinks there is more to this than suicide and is insisting on further investigation before the body can be moved. Now the boy's Godfather is on route to the remote Scottish town to help find out just what has happened.

Good characterisation on the first four chapters and we already have a feel for the main protagonists. Sadly, they do seem a little trite at the moment and following well explored stereotypes:

Brusque and unhelpful local police officer that thinks that non-locals are a pain in the nether regions.

Out of her depth new doctor who already has a reputation for wanting "bothersome" autopsies.

Psychologically and physically damaged ex-spy whose previous life will no doubt be of exceptional help untieing the knots of the situation.

Despite this the writing thus far flows well and draws you in to the story.
