I really enjoyed this, although I wouldn't exactly describe it as a thriller. It was more of a naval mystery, but enjoyable nonetheless. The book switches between present day and the 1980s, slowly revealing how events in the 1980s are now coming to the surface and consequences are being faced.
The scene is set in the prologue, with a near nuclear missile launch on a submarine where Lieutenant Bill Guth is serving in 1983. Throughout the book we slowly find out what happened on the submarine, and what happened subsequently. In the present day we join the Guth family for Thanksgiving, where they are joined by Sam Bowen, a historian, who is researching what actually happened on the submarine. Sam's body is found the next morning, and an enjoyable whodunnit and why ensues.
