From the prologue I was expecting a very exciting read with a story based on people’s experiences as submariners and an evolving twisting plot. The way the book was laid out, flipping between present day and events unfolding in a Cold War age was very clever. However, having read a great deal of novels from writers who are ex-servicemen, I found the language used by the writer quite one dimensional and not believable. There is obviously more you can add to describe situations if you have actually lived through them. The plot was quite thinly veiled as it went along and I ended up guessing the ending long before I reached the conclusion of the book. The idea was good but the execution wasn’t.
