I was lucky enough to win an advance copy of this and hadn't read anything by Michael Ridpath before so I didn't know what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Starting in the 1980's onboard a U.S. Navy submarine that receives an order to launch it's nuclear missiles, it then jumps forward to 2019 where one of the naval officers involved is celebrating Thanksgiving with friends and his extended family. Enter a nosy journalist and pretty soon there's a murder, old and new family secrets start to unfold, and there are flashbacks to what actually happened on the submarine. I found the story well-written and gripping from the very start, with enough twists and turns to make me want to keep reading more. I highly recommend it.
