I was drawn to read this book by the front cover, which gave me the impression that it would be a tense military thriller but I have to admit to being a little disappointed.
Bill Guth's family, friends and military experiences are entwined in the plot. The conflict and relationship between the characters does provides a lot of interest to the plot. Bill's past military service catches up with him when a historian journalist wants to talk to him about an event in 1983 that is still classified information in 2019.I did find jumping back and forth from one year to another made the book a little disjointed. I was also a little disappointed with the ending and reason for the action taken, which I guessed before the end of the book.
I would however read another book by Michael Ridpath as I found this book very descriptive and easy to read
