Initially I didn’t think that this would be my type of book but I absolutely loved it. It is a big chunky read that I didn’t want to put down and, unlike a lot of thrillers I read, the ending did not disappoint and leave me with a feeling of anti-climax.
The characters are strong and the location for the current day part of the story is well chosen and described giving a sense of atmosphere. The 1980’s flashbacks reminded me vividly of the background fear of my teens and growing up with the ever-present threat of a nuclear war. It is also chilling to think how close the world came to possibly ending (and to think, all we need to worry about now is the climate!).
If my review seems vague it is because I don’t want to give away any of the storyline. Please read - I cannot recommend this book enough.
