I’m sorry to say, this novel was a bit of a struggle for me. I love to read in bed and often can’t put the book down and miss out on my beauty sleep. This was not the case with Launch Code. If you have insomnia cuddle up with this book. There is so much minuscule detail about submarines and procedures, Bill’s first meeting with Donna (his wife) etc etc etc. I understand setting up the story but it was too much. Yes there’s a murder, more than one actually, which I appreciated as I kept reading to get to those parts. Bill is the main character in the book and although American he has retired to the English county of Norfolk. The current day portion of the book begins with Bill having his four daughters over to celebrate Thanksgiving. A historian comes to interview Bill the same day and ask him questions about an incident during the Cold War. The historian is invited back to join them at dinner and when returning to his rented room at the local pub, is murdered. Number one suspect is one of Bills daughters but I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I’ll leave it here.
