What a fabulous book!

I don't know what I expected when I picked this book but I was pleasantly surprised. Lately, there have been a lot of books set in bookshops and I was undecided about reading another but it turned out to be a completely different to what I was expecting!

It's quite sad in places. I loved all the book references, it’s a book about books and it has made me want to bump certain titles up on my reading pile!!

There are some great characters, especially Loveday. She has a great voice and she’s very believable. There is something very endearing about her.

Loveday works in a second hand bookshop which also sells rare books and first editions. This is where she feels safe and comfortable with the chatty and likeable character Archie who owns the store and looks out for her. It runs along nicely however it begins to dip into the mundane and I began to wonder if anything was going to happen. Loveday comes from a difficult past and little by little we begin to understand what makes her what she is today. She gives very little away to those around her but with the help of other characters we begin to learn about her, and her increasing confidence allows her to face her past.

The arrival of some donated books found within boxes left for her to sort out remind her of her past, a past which she is trying to forget. Is this just a coincidence or does someone know her secret and do they want to make contact?

The story is quite enigmatic with hidden depths. It definitely shows you can’t judge a book by it’s cover.

A lovely, heartwarming story about books, friendship, life, love and hope.
