Don't be mislead by the cover, this is not a cosy read. Although there is a lot of warmth and cosiness about the bookshop, which is itself a leading character in this story, the tale is dark and quite unsettling as it unravels. All the characters are people you want to learn more about, flaws and all. I could smell the bookshop as the door opened and clearly visualise combing through the shelves for hidden treasure and yes, doing my little dance of joy when I found a book long searched for! This is a story about caring. Caring for our family, for our friends and the places we value and feel safe in. Loveday's safe place is her bookshop sanctuary and we feel her fear when it is invaded. When events finally force her to stop running from the past, Loveday begins to reconnect with the world and confront her demons, allowing the possibility of love and a future without fear. Have some tissues ready, it's emotional.
