I received a copy from ReadersFirst in exchange for an impartial review.

When I read the first look I was swallowed up into the world of Lost for Words book shop. After all who picks a Mersey beat poet and has it be Brian Patton? I liked that the poems and books taken as part here were not all mainstream or the obvious choice.

'First lines did not define last pages in real life the way they did in books.'

Loveday Cardew prefers books to people. If you look carefully, you might glimpse the first lines of the novels she loves most tattooed on her skin. But there are some things Loveday will never show you.

Loveday sounds like a person after my own heart and I'd like to meet her.

Loveday is the main character and this is a tale about her growing up and growing to trust. Her backstory is told in history chapters split between her previous attempt at a relationship and her childhood whilst the present covers how she grows over a few months including a not in your face love story and the message that you can build a family from anyone as long as you are willing to try and be yourself.

I had one moment of argument with the boo k and that was the idea that a ten year old could find Sweet Valley High in their school library. Given the row we had to go through to get them into our secondary school library for the 14+ students in the 90's I very much doubt they were in a Whitby primary school, Sweet Valley Twins yes but High no. This through me out of the story for a while and as a result it wasn't quite a 5 star read.
