While on her way to work in a second hand bookshop one day, Loveday Cardew finds a book of poetry, carelessly left by a bin. She rescues it with the intention of advertising that it's been lost, but with a hope that it might not be claimed. A week later, Nathan Avebury, a self claimed poet, arrives to claim it.
I'm a bit of a sucker for books set in bookshops - I love the descriptions of all the books and the references to authors. This book starts off well, I like Loveday, she seems clever, passionate, although lonely. She's not a massive fan of small talk or people generally (totally get where she's coming from) and so the introduction of Nathan Avebury was great - he seems the complete opposite!
The characters are already well described, and I really didn't want this sample to end! I can't wait to read the rest of it, and find out more about Loveday's past.
