Loveday Cardew is the luckiest girl on earth. Her workplace is her haven and refuge from the chaotic world around her. Outside of her job at the book shop and her friend Archie, she is pretty much a recluse by choice. She's socially awkward and avoids building relationships of any kind. She much prefers the company of books. However, there is much more to her character other than this sense of isolation.

Weaving between the past and the present, we learn about why Loveday is as she is and the events and reasons that have resulted in her lifestyle choices. Her traumatic childhood means that she has absolutely no belief in herself. She also doesn't see why anyone would want to be a part of her life. As a result, everyone is kept at arms length to protect herself.

This changes when she is shockingly and rather unintentionally swept of her feet by a poet/magician called Nathan. She now has a decision to make. Does she reveal all to him and risk the chance of ruining it all? Or does she keep quiet and push him away? What if someone else tells him?

A lovely little read about love, loss, fear and relationships. Loveday is a meek protagonist but she grows through self discovery as the novel progresses. You find yourself championing her and wanting the best for her as a character.
