Not quite what I thought

I wanted to give this three and a half stars but couldn’t work out how to do it. However, I quite enjoyed this book but it wasn’t what I was expecting. I thought the writing was very good and the characters were pretty well drawn, although we really didn’t get to learn too much about Kate’s parents in comparison to Paul’s.

I particularly enjoyed the earlier part of the story when Kate and Paul first meet as 8 year olds and their close friendship from then on through to when they go to university. What I did feel was that the story later seemed to drag somewhat and I started to wonder when anything was really going to happen. We kept being told about this mysterious letter that was going to be revealed on Kate and Paul’s 10th wedding anniversary and that it would be some huge thing. Damp squib more like. We were told in the blurb that this was for fans of Clare Mackintosh. I’m a huge Clare Mackintosh fan and this really does not stand comparison with her books as they twist you every which way and don’t let you down whereas I’m afraid this did.

Not a bad book at all, just not what I expected.
