What a very strange little book this is. Somehow you can see this being picked up by English Literature teachers as being full of metaphor for the structure of the modern day world and, I hate to admit it, but I find this thought rather offputting. Sometimes a tale is just a tale but the metaphor is strong with this one.
Because there is a complete fantasy world here you do need to plug a few brain cells in to gain enjoyment from reading as there are few commonalities to latch on to, in the early stages anyway.
