This is certainly a different type of book and at times it is a bit of a struggle to try and keep reading. In particular the parts of the book that deal with the Dreamworld aspect of it can be very confusing as you try to figure out what is happening. The basic story is of a world where money equates to size and the central character (Werner) is a “littlepoor” – the size of a small rodent. He sets out with his sister and a friend to try and get a husband for the sister to enable the family to “scale up” in size if she marries a man of wealth. After an altercation – Warner ends up in prison – and the plans are in ruins. But he has a talent for dreaming which is useful in Dreamworld and he eventually makes lots of money (Mun Mun). The book gets bogged down a bit in the middle but picks up near the end. The ending itself is a bit strange. The book is cleverly written with a text type and made up words adding to its quirkiness. The page number also are novel as they move up the page as Werner increases in size and wealth! A satire novel which has many interesting references to the present world and how we treat poor people, the environment, justice etc. Worth a read but may not be to everyone’s taste – at times you have to stick at it. I enjoyed it.
