Mun Mun is the story of young siblings Prayer and Warner who are about the size of your average rat (although they would prefer to say the size of a squirrel). In this world, the more munmun you posses, the bigger you are. Warner and the other littlepoors dream of being big enough not to worry about being drowned by rain, eaten by cats or squashed. However, with no schools or hospitals small enough, there isn't much chance of a littlepoor escaping their situation. The only escape they have is at night within dreamworld, where everyone is the same size and the world can be whatever you want it to be. With dreams in their hearts and an idea in their heads, Warner and Prayer head off to law school to find Prayer a rich husband but all does not go to plan...

I enjoyed this book far more than I thought I was going to, which was an excellent surprise. The first few chapters did little to grab me, however just a few more and I was hooked. The way of writing and use of language took a little getting used to, but once I got over the initial hump I definitely found this difficult to put down. The book made an excellent analogy of the poverty trap without being overbearing and preachy. Instead presenting you with perfectly relate-able characters, who act how most of us would in the same situations, even if we wouldn't want to admit it. Prayer and Warner experienced their fair share of both good luck and bad luck, but ultimately there were no happy endings. This book is darker than I expected and is full of anger, hatred, pain and inequality, as well as a little bit of violence. I would definitely recommend this for older teens or young adults rather than those in their early teens due to the strong themes.
