This all read as a fairly typical crime thriller,

A body is found by a DS and her partner towards the end of a long night shift, there's no ID,no suspects and no one in the area knows anything.

We don't really find out anything else in this initial look. There's a rivalry between the police officers and the forensics team, and there's hints that the head honcho of the Peckham police station isn't quite as good as he thinks, but there's not really an awful lot to comment on despite the 30 pages.

My problem with it,hence only the 3 stars is that nothing in this first impression made it stand out from the many other crime thrillers, and there was little character detail to grab my attention on the dynamics as opposed to the plot. Just lots of litte tid bits and banality.

I'm guessing that the suspense and intrigue will come later on in the book, but it's not as gripping an opening as some crime novels I've read, this isn't a problem necessarily as I've only read the first 35 pages, It's a tough thing to ask and maybe my interest in the genre has made me a harsher critic.

I hope the novel picks up and draws the reader in as the book progresses
