Lynda La Plante is an accomplished screen writer whose background is readily apparent in the prose of this book. The characters are larger than life, exaggerated a little too much as needed in a two hour film rather than a novel.
This is the latest in the Jane Tennison series set in London in the seventies. She is now a Detective Sergeant combatting not only solving crimes but also her misogynistic colleagues and superiors. She is investigating a series of murders set during the 1979 strikes where rubbish was piling up in the streets which hampers the investigations.
It is fast paced and the plot is full of twists and turns. I enjoyed it as an escape from reality and can recommend it as ideal holiday reading.
