Jane Tennisson is working as part of a murder investigation team. Set in 1979 when forensic technology was emerging, Jane uses her instincts (against the advice of her senior officers) to uncover the motive and culprit.

I liked the style of the writing, it was easy and light. It starts off quite slow but quickly picks up pace. The plot is interesting enough, if a little predictable and far-fetched at times. I wouldn't suggest this is a "thriller", more so "crime fiction". There was potential to touch on some interesting topics such as the male domination of the police force at the time as well as the attitude to homosexuality but I don’t think they were quite as well explored.

Though Murder Mile is part of a series, I didn’t feel as though I needed to have read others in the series to enjoy the story though I didn’t really feel a connection to Janes character. I wonder if this done better in others in the series. This is the first I have read in the series and having read the first look and reviews of others in the Tennisson series, I had quite high expectations; I found it quite underwhelming.
