This book was just as good as Good Friday which is the only other Jane Tennison book I have read.
Set in the late 1970s, every detail seems authentic and true to that time.
Lynda La Plante accurately conveys the sexism and homophobia rife in the police force at that time as well as the Masonic prejudices. Nevertheless, it is Jane Tennison's female attention to detail and intuition which leads to the apprehension of the serial murderer in this case.
There was one loose end - the behaviour of a high ranking police officer was not properly addressed in this book - perhaps that is being left for a later plot?
A thoroughly enjoyable read which was difficult to put down. Recommended for all readers who enjoy police procedural fiction.
