Murder: The Biography by Kate Morgan is an informative take on the changes in murder laws in the UK over the centuries from the Medieval Period to present day. Morgan deftly highlights how in the passing centuries new ways of committing crimes and new developments in our understanding of mental health have meant that the once simple charge of murder has become much more tangled and intricate, with many factors to be considered in the application of charges and punishment.

Although I learned a lot, with the author highlighting many important cases from the past and more recent times that I was not aware of, I felt that at just under 300 pages, it was a little sparse. I felt it barely scratched the surface for a book which is titled 'the biography' and would have benefited from another 100-200 pages. That being said, what was included was well written and well researched, and I will definitely read from Kate Morgan again.
