I don't normally enjoy non-fiction that much and wouldn't have thought to pick this off the shelf, had I not received it in exchange for a review. During the first chapter I struggled and nearly gave up, but I think this is because the first chapter focuses mainly on duelling which I find quite boring. I'm glad I stuck with it because it quickly got more interesting as the crimes moved into the past few centuries.

Once I got into the book I really enjoyed finding out how different crimes have shaped England's murder laws. The book shows that it may not always be the crimes you would expect that result in changes to the law.

I thought that the book was well written with a good balance of historic stories and explanations of the law. Whilst the detail on each crime was fairly brief it has made me want to go away and research some of the crimes in more detail.
