True crime is an over-saturated genre but this book comes at it at a new angle. It examines a variety of murders & the characters involved throughout out the case & how they impacted UK law & the investigation of a murder. Many of the cases will be familiar to anyone who has an interest in true crime or the British legal system but this book focuses on more than the actual initial crime. It also proves that often truth is stranger than fiction!

The book is written using very clear language, with limited legal jargon so can be enjoyed by readers with minimal knowledge of the details of the laws used to investigate, prosecute or defend a case of murder.

What makes this book stand out from others in the true crime genre is that it doesn't just focus on the details & gore of the murder, it introduces the reader to a wide cast of characters involved, including solicitors, police officers, barristers & judges & the impact they had on changing the laws to suit the times.

All in all, a truly informative & thought provoking book on the evolution of our legal system.
