I enjoyed the First Impression because increasingly I am finding family dramas are my preferred choice of reading with the slow build, strong characterisation and a rigorous psychological element. The three narrators stand easily apart and have the makings of being distinctive and that the setting is the same as in the author’s last novel, The Stolen Child, bodes well as she did a magnificent job with creating a sense in place.

Long held secrets fascinate me because I think there is a point when it moves from simply being awkward to impossible to disclose and the more someone strives to uncover, the more potential there is for an explosive fallout. And can a family ever recover from the damage?
