As Britain teeters on the the brink of the Second World War, Cambridge professor Tom Wilde brings home a student from Spain. The student is suffering from what we would now call PTSD and seems to be hiding a great secret. Also, why has his family disowned him, and what of the mysterious women in his previous life. As war starts, the Germans are doing their utmost to keep the neutral Americans out of the war. Terrorist plots, shoot-outs and apparent suicides ensue before the final denouement.
The cover compares the author with Robert Harris. He is nowhere near that good but, despite a somewhat implausible plot, this is an amiable page turner that will while away a few hours. I would certainly look out for other titles in the series.
