This is a fast paced thriller, set in 1939 as the war was about to begin. The story is full of intrigue with one of the main characters, Tom Wilde, trying to decide who he can trust and what various people's motives and allegiances are. He is an American citizen reluctantly drawn in to the release of a Cambridge graduate he once taught incarcerated in a foreign camp. The tale begins with he and his girlfriend getting Marcus home from what should have been their honeymoon but ended up being just a holiday. The rest of the tale is a nightmare for him and others, not knowing which side various people are on. The author weaves the story of real people such as the Kennedy family in to the tale very skilfully. Full of tension and twists, an excellent read.
