I really really enjoyed this book.
Although it is the third in a series of books to feature the Professor Tom Wilde, and I had not read any of the previous novels, this did not impact on my enjoyment at all.
In this book set just before and during the first days of the second workd war, Wilde is in France when he is approached by a man claiming that a former student of his is being held in an internment camp. Wilde rescues him and takes him back to England, but the young man has a troubled past, and all is not as straightforward as it should be.
Alongside this plotline are several other threads involving the British secret service at its highest level, and these all intertwine well to provide a really enjoyable read.
I shall be going back to look out the first two books in this series, and awaiting any further installments with interest.
I'd highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys either historical fiction, as the details are good, or just a good thriller. You won't be disappointed!
