Naive Yet Empowering

Despite this being a sequel to 'No Virgin' I read this as a stand alone book. I found it incredibly easy to read as it was written in a very naïve and simplistic way which suited the character of Stacey as a 17 year old girl telling her truth. The book focuses more on the trial that she experiences rather than the rape that occurred which I found to be an interesting perspective as it gives us a 'beyond the assault' narrative. I also found that when an obvious plot twist was about to happen I guessed completely wrong and was grateful for the book keeping me on my toes. I will admit that at brief moments the story can be hard to read but I think that lends the narrative an integrity that is crucial for a subject such as this.
