I always enjoy looking back at fairly recent history, as it often gets shoved aside by the "bigger more glamorous" periods, such as the Tudors. This novel opens up some of the secrecy of the early nuclear scientists at the Cavendish Laboratory in the ancient university town of Cambridge. The men from a number of different countries were working on, at the time, the real edge of scientific thought and the explanations given in the book explain much.
The personalities of the protaganists are well described and the pressures on them provide the reader with a well thought out detective story.
The author has produced an interesting and intellectual hero, much like the Indiana Jones films, whom I'm sure and hope many times.
I would suggest also the reader should get hold of the first book, Corpus, featuring Professor Tom Wilde, this will take them back a few years to 1936.
