What a book! Caroline's situation to start with is so desperate I couldn't see a way out of it - I know I wouldn't have coped if it was me in her situation! Yet she manages to dig herself out, be it in a rather unorthodox and questionable way, and make something good out of such a horrible situation. This book gave me a new perspective on abuse. I've always thought of it in terms of physical or emotional but it's not always that clear-cut, as this book has shown me. Jack is manipulative and twisted and as the story went on I just kept finding out more to make me hate him. This is a very clever book, the many layers of the story kept me gripped, the writing itself was a tense and emotional rollercoaster. This book swept me up and kept me in its grip for the whole ride.
